அன்னையின் பாதையில்... பிறருடைய அபிப்பிராயங்களுக்காக மட்டுமே நாம் நம்மை நல்லவராக காட்டிக் கொள்ளலாமா ?

பிறருடைய அபிப்பிராயங்களுக்காக மட்டுமே நாம் நம்மை நல்லவராக காட்டிக் கொள்ளலாமா ?

நமது சிந்தனைக்கு:

நாம் நல்லவர்தானா? அல்லது பிறர் குறை கூறுவார்கள் என்பதற்காக நல்லவர்கள் போல காட்டிக்கொள்ளும் செயல்களைச் செய்கிறோமா? அன்னையை ஏற்ற ஒவ்வொருவரும் நம்மை நாமே கேட்டுக் கொள்ளவேண்டிய கேள்வி இது. முதலாளியிடம் நல்ல பெயர் வாங்க வேண்டும் என்று மட்டுமே ஒரு தொழிலாளி தரும் கூடுதல் உழைப்பு, தனக்குப் பிடித்த ஆசிரியரிடம் நல்ல பெயர் வாங்க மட்டுமே முயற்சி செய்யும் ஒரு மாணவன், இனிக்க இனிக்கப் பேசும் மனிதர்கள் என சில உதாரணங்களைக் கூறலாம். அந்தத தொழிலாளி இயல்பாக, வீட்டில் சோம்பேறித்தனம் உள்ளவராக இருக்கலாம். அந்த மாணவன் படிப்பில் ஈடுபாடு இல்லாதவனாக கூட இருக்கலாம். பிறரிடம் நல்ல பெயர் வாங்க மட்டுமே இனிமையாக பேசுபவர்கள், வீட்டில் கடுமையை காட்டலாம். இல்லையா? இவ்வாறு நாம் செய்யும் பல செயல்களில் போலித்தனம், பொய்யும்  நாம் அறிந்தோ, அறியாமலோ கலந்து விடுகிறது.

நமக்கு பிடிக்கிறதோ அல்லது பிடிக்கவில்லையோ, பிறரை திருப்தி செய்யும் பொருட்டோ அல்லது நாம் நல்லவர்கள் என்று காட்டிக் கொள்ளும் பொருட்டோ, நாம் சில நல்ல செயல்களைச் செய்கிறோம். எப்படி பார்த்தாலும், நமது இயற்கையான குணத்திற்கு அல்லது மனநிலைக்கு மாறாக போலித்தனமாக நாம் செய்யும் எந்த செயலும் உண்மைக்கு புறம்பானதுதானே?

அன்னையின் வாழ்வில் செல்வோருக்கு, பொய்யும் போலித்தனமும் என்றும் உதவாது என்பதை நாம் அறிவோம். மேற்கூறியது போல், பிறரின் நல்ல அபிப்பிராயங்களைப் பெறுவதற்காக மட்டுமே நாம் செய்யும் செயல்கள், நமது Weakness ஐ பலவீனத்தைக் குறிக்கிறது. அன்னை இதுபற்றி என்ன கூறுகிறார் என்று காண்போம்.

....................Oh, Lord!... To appear good in others’ eyes, to have public approval? Is that it?

First, the best way is to ask oneself why one values others’ approval. For what particular reason, because there are many reasons.... If you have a career and your career depends on the good opinion others have of you, then that’s a utilitarian reason. If you have a little, or much, vanity and like compliments, that’s another reason. If you attach great value to others’ opinion of you because you feel they are wiser or more enlightened or have more knowledge, that’s yet another reason. There are many others still, but these are the three chief reasons: utility, vanity —usually this is the strongest—and progress....................

Finally, if one is sincere one desires no other approval except that of one’s teacher or one’s guru or of the Divine Himself. And that’s the first step towards a total cure of this little weakness of wishing to make a good impression on people........

............Indeed, it is better not to care at all about what others think of you, whether it is good or bad.

நம்முடைய, இந்த சிறுமையில் இருந்து நாம் அகல, நம்முடைய குரு அல்லது இறைவனின் நல்ல அபிப்பிராயங்களைப் பெறுவது மட்டுமே,  ஒருவருக்கு முக்கியமானதாக இருக்கவேண்டும். இறைவன் நம் மேல் வைத்திருக்கும் அபிப்பிராயமும், அவன் தரும் அங்கீகாரமும் மட்டுமே நமக்கு முக்கியமாக இருக்க வேண்டும் . மற்றவர்களின் அபிப்பிராயங்களை, அவை நல்லதோ கெட்டதோ, அவைகளை சட்டை செயாமல் இருப்பதே நல்லது என்றும் கூறுகிறார். 

But in any case, before reaching this stage, it would be less ridiculous to try to find out the impression you make on others simply by taking them as a mirror in which you see your reflection more exactly than in your own consciousness which is always over-indulgent to all your weakness, blindness, passions, ignorance.

ஆனால், இந்தக் கட்டத்தை அடைவது எளிதல்ல. மற்றவர்களை, நமது குணங்களைக் காட்டும் கண்ணாடியாகக் கொள்வது, இந்த மனநிலையை அடைய உதவி செய்யும். மற்றவர்களின் செயல்பாடுகளின் மூலம் நமது அறியாமை, Weakness அல்லது பலவீனங்கள், நம்முடைய விருப்பு வெறுப்பு என எல்லாவற்றையும் அவர்களது செயல்பாடுகளின் மூலம் அறியலாம் என்கிறார் அன்னை.

.....when you have the chance of getting information that’s a little more trustworthy and reliable about the condition you are in, it is better not to ask the opinion of others, but only to refer all to the vision of the guru.

It is to bring out clearly the stupidity of the reasonings of the mind, which imagines it can speak of what it does not know. It is nothing else. You can prove anything with the mind. When you know how to use it and have mastered reasoning and deduction, you can prove anything. As a matter of fact, this is an exercise that is given in universities to make the mind supple: you are given a thesis to prove and immediately afterwards, with equal conviction, you have to prove its antithesis—in the hope that if you rise a little above both, you will discover the synthesis. Therefore, once it is conceded that anything can be proved, it follows that reasoning leads nowhere;because if you can prove something and in the next moment prove its opposite, this is the proof that your proofs are worthless. Someone has asked me, “How is it possible for God to reveal Himself to an unbeliever?” That’s very funny; because if it pleases God to reveal Himself to an unbeliever, I don’t see what would prevent Him from doing so!
